WebSep 14, 2015 · I don't agree with the above - eggshell is not the same finish as matt. Its typically anywhere from 15-25% sheen (I know Little Greene eggshell is 15%). Normal vinyl matt is around 7-10% matt I think; ultra flat matt paint by Little Greene/Farrow & Ball etc. is around 2%, their washable matt 5-7%. This discussion has been closed. Sure you can put matt over silk, but I believe what the poster was concerned about is that you often get fine cracks in the matt paint as it dries over silk.

The silk cause the Matt to shrink as it dries!! 2 options - sand to give a good key then try OR as we do, give a sand, then few coats of zissner BIN primer - blue water based one. let it cure then paint in the Matt.
